Reaching Bandhavgarh National Park

About Bandhavgarh National Park

The Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve is situated in the Umaria and Katni districts’ eastern Satpura hill range. According to mythology, the name “Bandhavgarh” is derived from the words “Bandhav” (which means brother) and “garh” (which means fort). A reference to this can also be found in the Narad Panch Ratna and Shiva Sanhita Puran. This fort was created and entrusted to brother Lakshman by Lord Rama to keep an eye on Lanka. Given the diversity of its flora and fauna, Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve is crucial.

The healthy tiger population and variety of herbivores found in the Tiger Reserve are well-known. This region is exceptional in terms of biodiversity since it contains hills, valleys, rivers, marshes, and meadows, which support a variety of plant life. Apart from the tiger, up to 34 species of mammals, over 260 species of birds, and 70 species of butterflies have been recorded.
