Reaching Gir National Park

About Gir National Park

Gujarat, a state in far-western central India, is home to Gir National Park, which is situated close to the coast. The extent of the national park is 545 square miles (1,412 sq km). Sasan Gir is a another name for it.

As a wildlife sanctuary, the national park protects the Asiatic lion population, which has been growing recently. A dry deciduous forest with teak trees is present throughout the park. The park is made up of a hilly terrain with arid scrubland.

The park is traversed by seven perennial rivers, and four dams have produced four reservoirs. Some of the finest spots to see wildlife are around these water sources. Datardi, Godavari, Hiran, Machhundri, Raval, Shetrunji, and Shingoda are the seven rivers. These four rivers—Hiran, Machhundri, Raval, and Shingoda—all have dams.

Although there are just 38 species of mammals, there are more than 2,300 species of fauna as a whole. With 300 species of birds and 37 species of reptiles, insects make up the majority of the animal kingdom. The park’s predators include the Asiatic lion, Indian leopard, jungle cat, hyena, Desert cat, honey badger, and mongoose.
